Krisis BBM: sebagian pertimbangan tentang "harga" sesungguhnya penggunaan BBM

Berita tentang kelangkaan BBM memenuhi berbagai media hari-hari ini, berbagai tindakan (jangka pendek) telah diambil lewat Keputusan Presiden (?). Aku agak heran bahwa penyusunan atau peninjauan "kebijakan energi nasional" tidak menjadi salah satu agenda. Dari Presiden yang pernah memimpin Departemen Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) memang hal ini agak mencengangkan. Sedang dari perspektif administrasi publik tidak adanya rumusan jelas tentang kebijakan nasional atau strategi nasional tentang energi (juga tentang berbagai hal lain) kelihatannya merupakan pola umum.

Dengan demikian semua persoalan ingin diselesaikan sebagai masalah jangka pendek, dan juga parsial - sepotong-sepotong - sehingga tidak mengherankan secara keseluruhan Indonesia masih harus menanggung ekonomi biaya tinggi. Tidak mampu untuk melihat persoalan secara menyeluruh termasuk persoalan antar generasi (antar waktu) tentu tidak akan menghasilkan pemecahan yang menyeluruh ataupun yang terbaik.

What is the price you pay to purchase a gallon of gasoline for your car? Depending on what part of the country you live in, it is probably between $1.50 and $2.00 per gallon.

But is this the “real cost” of the gasoline? True, it is the actual price you paid at the gas pump. But is it the total “real cost” that you and all of us are paying for our continued dependence on fossil fuels?

I think not. There are a number of “hidden” costs that most of us do not realize. It is not obvious but we are quietly paying these additional costs every day. These additional indirect costs actually make the “real” cost of the gasoline many times higher than it seems at first glance.
